Let Me Count the Ways: Writing the List Poem
Taught by Shari Wagner
Sponsored by: The Lafayette Writers' Studio
Saturday, February 6, 10:00-12:30
$59
There’s something universally appealing about the list poem, a form going back to Homer, the Old Testament, and Native American prayers. During this class, we’ll look at list poems by contemporary poets, create a collaborative list poem, and engage in writing activities designed to generate our own inventories of images and then transform them into the early drafts of poems.

Instructor: Shari Wagner
Date: Not currently available
Time:
Location: Indiana Writers Center
Cost: $215 nonmembers, $155 members, $135 student members/teacher members/senior members/military members
Each life has its crossroads, defining moments that determine its direction. In this poetry workshop, we will use the techniques of memoir to explore the significant moments in our own life or in the life of someone else. That “someone else” could be anyone who intrigues you—an ancestor, a historical figure, a literary or mythological character, or even a persona from your imagination. Exercises and assignments will be geared toward helping you develop a collection of poems that, linked together, reveal a life story. Beginning poets are welcome, as well as advanced. Limit for class: 10
The cost of this class includes a $25 critiquing fee, to be remitted by IWC directly to the instructor, for assignments that she critiques outside of class time. To register, go to The Indiana Writers Center.
